Symmetries play an important role in physics. The central potentials
discussed above have
rotational symmetry. From classical mechanics (Noether Theorem) we know that this implies the
existence of a conserved quantity. In the case of rotational symmetry this means
the conservation of angular momentum which is Kepler's second law.
